Every December 30, the Philippines commemorates Rizal Day—a moment to honor the life, works, and legacy of Dr. José Rizal, the country’s foremost national hero. This year’s theme calls for reflection on Rizal’s enduring relevance in the contemporary era and how his teachings inspire Filipinos to navigate the challenges of a modern Philippines.
It urges us to examine how Rizal’s principles guide us in today’s world. A “New Philippines” envisions a society grounded in justice, equity, and progress—values Rizal championed. As we confront modern challenges such as poverty, corruption, and global crises, Rizal’s teachings remind us of the importance of collective action, education, and patriotism.
As the Municipality of Salcedo, Eastern Samar celebrate Rizal Day, let us not only honor his memory but also commit to embodying his values in our daily lives. Whether through small acts of kindness, advocacy for social justice, or dedication to education, each Filipino has a role to play in building a brighter future.
