The DoH Eastern Visayas Region last night reported a confirmed COVID-19 case recorded as coming from Salcedo, Eastern Samar.

The report, which was delivered through a social media post, signifies the first ever COVID-19 case of the municipality.

Atty. Melchor Mergal, the Municipal Mayor of Salcedo, explained through a social media post that there is nothing to worry about the confirmed case.

The said post translates: “We are safe. The positive case from Salcedo is a worker from the Capitol who was assigned at the Leyte Park Hotel which functions as the Emergency Operation Center for COVID-19. We have nothing to worry about considering that the person had no contact with Salcedo residents since he/she last went home on August 7. Let us pray for him/her that in the next few days he/she may overcome this situation together with his/her family. The LGU is committed in making sure that we remain COVID-19 free. Let us all help each other.”

The Mayor’s post was referencing a report by the Provincial Health Office on social media explaining the seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Eastern Samar. The Province of Eastern Samar now has 37 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 26 active cases, 11 recoveries, and 2 deaths.
