Headed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Local Government Unit of Salcedo, Eastern Samar wants everyone to be reminded specially those engaged in hiking, trekking and mountaineering to practice proper biosecurity measures and prevent introduction and/or spread of the disease among endemic wild pigs.

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a deadly and contagious viral disease of pigs that affects not only domesticated pigs but even wild pigs. ASF does not infect people but it has devastating effects on pig populations. As the virus is highly resistant in the environment, it can survive on clothes, shoes, and other items. It can also survive in contaminated pork and pork products. Therefore, human behaviors can contribute to the spread of ASF if adequate measures are not taken.
